Blog We Love: In Pursuit of Style With Sonia Gupta

Sonia Gupta is a New Yorker to the core. Born in Long Island, educated at NYU, and now working for a major specialty retailer in the City, Sonia says, “living in a city like New York, fashion inspiration is everywhere. Simply walking down the street in the West Village or being around Lincoln Center during New York Fashion Week is great material for inspiration.” In New York, a place that celebrates culture and fashion from around the world, Sonia found herself at home.

Her passion for fashion began at the age of 5. Sonia shares, “There is a video of me on my 5th birthday walking around with a purse and cute bow shoes,” she adds, “As I got older, I longed to receive each issue of Vogue and ELLE in the mail and flip through the pages. It is still my favorite thing to do in my spare time.” Her mission became the namesake of her blog, In Pursuit of Style .

After soaking in pages and pages of her fabulous, trendy, yet effortless style, we had to name this tastemaker’s adorned adventure our first ever Blog We Love.

What inspired you to start blogging?
Sonia: I had heard about people writing blogs & some of my friends began to do it. To be honest, I didn’t really understand what they were about or how to actually write one. I figured the best education was to dig right in – so I started In Pursuit of Style.

Who are your fashion inspirations?
Sonia: My style icons are Gwyneth Paltrow, Joanna Hillman and Olivia Palermo.

What are some of the best perks of being a fashion blogger?
Sonia: Blogging is definitely hard work, but there are some perks! My favorite perk is being able to attend cool events with amazing people. During this past New York Fashion Week, I had the pleasure of attending some runway shows, which was a dream of mine!

What is one piece in your closet, which you are dying to wear, but not sure how to style?
Sonia: Last year, I was absolutely lusting after this pair of grey suede Elizabeth & James boots – which I finally bought. I have only worn them one time since I bought them, but am dying to throw them on with the perfect outfit this winter – just have to figure out what the perfect look is…

If we are running short on time, and don’t have the skills to plan a fabulous outfit in 10 minutes, what are some sure fire tricks for putting together something adorable?
Sonia: There is one thing I value more than fashion – and that is my sleep! I often have to throw outfits together quickly in the morning before work (so I can maximize snooze time). My go-to look is a white blouse and skinny black pants – the black-and-white combo is forever chic & can be dressed up easily with a statement necklace or chunky bracelets. Beyond that, another tip would be to keep timeless pieces in your closet that can be easily mixed & matched, like a great pair of skinny jeans or a fitted navy blazer. When in doubt, wear what makes you feel the most confident – that’s the best accessory you can have!

We love that you have the perfect hair and make up for each outfit photo. What is your rule for pairing make up with an outfit?
Sonia: Oh, you make me blush! My make-up rule is to keep it simple. I am all about a clean, flawless face – it goes with every outfit. My daily regimen includes tinted moisturizer, a dab of concealer, a dash of blush and of course, black eyeliner. I swear by Laura Mercier products – they are very complimentary to tan skin tones.

What are some of your favorite brands?
Sonia: I love Vince, Parker, Diane Von Furstenberg and Zara for fashion-forward, trendy pieces.

What are your favorite blogs?
Sonia: I love 9-to-5 Chic, Born And Bread, Stripes & Sequins, and Atlantic Pacific – ladies with great style & personalities to boot.

If you want more Sonia (as we suspect you do), then mosey over to her blog, In Pursuit of Style , we’ll see you in the comments!

  1. Black and white contrast is such great fashion advice. Seeing that I am late for work today,I’m going to try it out. :)

  2. Superb pics. You are looking gorgeous in these pics.  It can be difficult to find good blogs nowadays. Found one here though by the looks of things.
