If you are challenged with finding the perfect gift for your significant other this February 14, then take some advice from the men we surveyed, along with our suggestions on how to turn it up a notch!
A Nice Watch
Men can never have too many watches. They collect them like we collect jewelry, just at a more expensive rate. Veteran significant other, Husam Brohi advises on what to purchase, “Everyone has a different threshold, but I think a Bespoke watch with some character…pre-owned Rolex, APs from different decades. [Something that has] some history to it and is not something everyone has, makes it more unique. Also, [consider] if he has a collection and any type of watch he doesn’t have, or a style/type he’d like to add.”
Advanced Relationships: If you are further along in your relationship, then add on a nice watch case for the collection you’re building him.
DIY (Do It Yourself)
Believe it or not, men like the sentimental stuff that we make for them. The scrapbooks, the dedication CDs, and the hand written love letters are not lost on them. “I don’t have any universal gifts, something thoughtful and personal is ideal (as always),” say Sheel Mohnot.
Advanced Relationships: Don’t just make him one gift, give him a DIY collection of surprises. A scrapbook, with a dedication CD pocked, that has love letters, and a calendar with pre-planned dates for every month.
BIY (Bake it Yourself)
Our focus group said they love dinner, desserts, or just a small snack sent to their office. Something about your ability to cook drives a man wild. Maybe it’s mommy issues, maybe it’s survival instincts, but something about you in an apron and oven mitts casts a spell. Tarek Chaudhary says he always prefers, ” a homemade meal….something simple”.
Advanced Relationships: Do it in lingerie and high heels. Sure you could do this in a new relationship, but it could also be perceived as trying too hard. Why not make him earn it?
The hot new trend in gifting is “experience gifts”, something the giftee gets to do, instead of own. “Paid vacation, which includes great activities, open bar, massages, and spa,” is the ideal Vday gift according to Raja DcMajor. But ofcourse a more simple road can be taken, Tehsin Ali says, “For the married with kid [couples],…a night out with the wife, without the adorable kid(s).”
Advanced Relationships: If you are with someone that has done it all, or you’ve experienced a lot with, try something more extreme like helicopter lessons, shark diving, or renting an exotic car. Group coupon-ing sites, such as LivingSocial or Groupon, often provide great deals.
