Green Date Ideas

If your significant other has a “save the world” side or you would love to see that side in them. Plan a date that is good to the earth – make an impression of how you value your self and the world.

Romantic Dinner Fresh From Farmers Market

Spend the late afternoon together at the Farmers Market, pick out your favorite fresh ingredients, and then spend the night at home cooking your date a delicious meal. Talk about killing two birds with one stone, your date might just leave thinking you are the perfect woman. If you want to up the anty, plant a garden together with some no fail basics such as tomatoes and squash. Who needs a “love fern” when you have a love garden.

Bring the Romance with Candles

Plan a cozy date at home using no electricity (well you can leave the heat or A/C on)! Create a romantic mood with candles and spend the evening with some of your favorite non-technological activities. Here is a hint, it includes champagne, strawberries, wood burning fires, and maybe some Scrabble or chess. If you want to be really on point, schedule your date for right before sunset. That way you can enjoy the moment then head inside for some quality time.

Classy Picnic

Leave the plastic forks and plates at home! Classy picnics use real silverware and china that you can wash and reuse. Pair them with a beautiful tablecloth as a ground cover and you have the setting for posh afternoon. If you wrap your sandwiches in cloth napkins, you can actually use the cloth napkins during the meal. At the end of lunch – everything should washable and not trashable. Unless of course that egg salad recipe comes out a bit off.

Be a Tourist in Your Own Town

How often do we really get to know the architecture and small gems within our own city? Put on the comfy cute shoes and plan a walking tour of your town. You are not only saving gas, enjoying the outdoors, and minimizing your consumption, you are also getting to know each other in the context of your favorite spots around town. If you take a break, make sure to stop at businesses committed to social responsibility like Chipotle and Starbucks.

Volunteer for an Outdoor Activity

Meaning to sign up for Habitat for Humanity? Always wanted to repaint an inner city park and garden for children? Why not find an activity buddy in a new love interest? There are plenty of organizations looking for weekend volunteers. The person that is going to support you “through thick and thin” should be ready and willing to impress you with his ability to give back.

  1. love the classy picnic idea…dont just make it ONE date…reuse all the items and make it a monthly tradition…until it gets cold. That way you get more use out of it, invite people next time…more people should picnic outside!

  4. I really like the farmer’s market idea! actually, my boyfriend and I went to a tree planting event one saturday morning and had such a great time, we went to a park clean up event a few weeks later. it’s a fun activity we can do together and know has positive results. we are thinking about joining the group we volunteered with, because we really enjoyed doing it together… it was a different kind of bonding. i totally support these ideas!
