Standing next to James Franco, Freida Pinto is making the staff at SAPNA very jealous! In Rise of the Planet of the Apes, she plays primatologist Caroline, Franco’s leading lady. Explaining her character further, Pinto says, “I play a primatologist and I have dedicated my entire life to chimpanzees. Caroline is the voice of reason but it’s a nice voice of reason without being preachy.â€
She was very vague regarding how she felt about Franco as an actor, stating, “He’s got his own unique and distinctive style of acting. It’s not conventional at all. It does take you by surprise initially, but it’s all about being flexible and trying to understand how another actor works. I found a lot of things in his acting style that I could pick up and learn from.â€
In Immortals, directed by fellow desi Tarsem Singh, Freida plays Phaedra. She is an oracle who can see possible futures, but only if she remains a virgin. “She’s conflicted,” director Tarsem Singh tells Entertainment Weekly. “Her ability helps Theseus, but it also prevents her from being the fully realized woman she wants to be.” Phardra accompanies the lead character on his quest. Rumor is Phardra loses her lovely red dress and her v-card onscreen.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes is due to hit theatres August 5, 2011; Immortals will release nationwide in 3-D on November 11, 2011.
