Fergie, Cheryl Cole flaunt desi designs

When it comes to the politics of fashion, every designer wants to dress the beautiful people of Hollywood… And every big star wants to stand out from the crowd. The perfect combination was exemplified last month: Fergie (The Black Eyed Peas) and Cheryl Cole (Girls Aloud) turned heads in Asian-inspired designs by Falguni & Shane Peacock.

The designers define their style as “bold and audacious prints” juxtaposed with a “wild and outrageous sense of style to create svelte and sexy silhouettes,” which perfectly describes Fergie’s look at this year’s American Music Awards. With black embroidery and feather embellishments, the dress showed off her physique with the perfect combination of edginess and glamour. This isn’t the first time that Fergie’s worn Falguni & Shane Peacock; she originally fell in love with their work after they concocted a futuristic black and gold armor number at the 2010 FIFA World Cup opening. Now Fergie tries to wear at least one of their outfits each month.

Falguni & Shane’s diversity has also been spotted across the pond on England’s most watched show, The X- Factor. The show’s judge and the country’s sweetheart, Cheryl Cole, wore a champagne ensemble on the episode that aired November 20th. The spangly number exemplified a sweet, feminine form with just the right amount of modernity and sophistication.

Since the advent of its couture line in 2004, the Falguni & Shane Peacock label has been celebrated in India and throughout the world. You can expect to be dazzled by more red carpet knockouts as the duo becomes more prominent.  —SALMA KHAN
