Amitabh Bachchan, the godfather of Bollywood, will be starring in the epic movie, “The Great Gatsby,” due to release in 2012. Playing Meyer Wolfsheim, who in the original story was a Jewish man Gatsby describes as a gambler who had fixed the World Series, Amitabh is delighted with his first big step into Hollywood.
“I still do not have the liberty to talk of the film in a personal capacity. Contracts bind me, but this I can say that it was a sheer delight to work with someone of such great genius as Baz Luhrmann and a host of co-stars that have astronomical presence in the world of cinema – Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire and the other greats,” Amitabh posted on his blog, bigb.bigadda.com.
Though betweeen Slumdog Millionaire (Anil Kapoor) and The Great Gatsby, we do see a pattern of our older Bollywood Heroes being cast as villains. We don’t support the gunda-fication of our idols, even if it’s a gunda with swagger.
